Residual particulate contamination testing in production
VDA 19.2
Are your products beginning to have cleanliness requirements and you are unsure if your facilities and supply chain are capable of meeting them?
The standard “VDA 19.2 Technical cleanliness in assembly – environment, logistics, personnel and assembly equipment” published by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) is a best practice guide for identifying, analyzing, and controlling sources of contamination. Contamination generated during the production of parts is not easily detected by the naked eye, but this contamination can reduce the product’s service life or affect its functionality.
Sources
The VDA 19.2 standard identifies four possible sources of contamination:
- Environment: associated with external contamination (e.g., open doors, ceiling height, movement, etc.)
- Logistics: linked to packaging and transport.
- Personnel: related to factory operators (e.g., hair, clothing, handling).
- Production resources: machines, tools, auxiliary equipment…
